We offer two insurance packages - Standard cover with an excess or Supercover with no excess for overseas drivers. With Supercover insurance, drivers from outside South Africa would therefore benefit from 100% insurance cover in the event of a vehicle theft or an accident. No excess is payable. Exclusions include - windscreen - undercarriage - and tyre damage; theft of radio. Terms and conditions apply. Details will be supplied with your contract of rental at time of vehicle collection. A claims handling fee of R480 is payable.

South Africa Drivers License Information for
Europcar car hire
Drivers must have a valid driving license, which displays his/her photograph upon it, or carry your passport with you as positive identification to verify you as the legal holder of the drivers license
qualifying you drive the car
hire that you have chosen.
Your license must be printed in English so a local traffic officer can establish which class of vehicle you are qualified to drive. If not, either an International license should be purchased before arrival, or an affidavit/letter, printed in English and stamped and signed by a commissioner of oaths stating the class of vehicle you are permitted to drive. The onus is on the driver to prove that he or she is qualified to drive such a vehicle.
Many Car rental companies are now insisting on an International Drivers License. We would recommend that you apply for an International Drivers License from your local AA office before depart from home.
You MUST carry your driving license on your person at all times while driving in South Africa.
For returning South Africans the old green ID drivers license document is no longer valid & therefore not acceptable. Please obtain an International drivers license before arrival.
Optional Extras - GPS Navigation
GPS road navigation units are available from Johannesburg / Cape Town / Durban Airports, subject to availability at time of booking. However, they may be returned to any depot when you return your car. Selftours will pre book this option if you required but payment can only be made on delivery of your vehicle and GPS unit. The rate is R49 per day.

Vehicle Availability
Europcar car hire has access to a national car rental fleet in excess of 7000 new vehicles. However, all vehicles are subject to availability at time of your booking. With South Africa becoming an increasingly popular international tourist destination you are strongly advised to book your vehicle well in advance, particularly over the popular summer season September through to April or if you require a large or a specialized vehicle..
Mileage maybe unlimited - but - vehicle supplies are not unlimited!

Europcar car hire operates on a national car rental basis with depots in most towns across South Africa. All our vehicles are less than one year old. In the unfortunate event of an accident or mechanical problem arising, we pride ourselves on being able to arrange a replacement vehicle within hours.

Cross Borders
Europcar car hire is restricted to within the borders of South Africa unless otherwise agreed to by the Hirer. On request a letter of authorisation will be issued on collection of your vehicle and cross border fees may apply.

Most of our vehicles will be permitted to cross into Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland & Lesotho. Currently we do not allow vehicles into Zimbabwe. Mozambique - special conditions.
